Getting Started Kit

Three worksheets for the first weeks of caring for a parent — where to begin, how to ask for help, and how to plan the week.

Use any worksheet on its own, or all three in order · Fill in online or print · What you type is never sent to CasaLore

Off by default. If you turn it on, your draft is saved in this browser, and anyone using this browser profile may be able to see it. Leave it off on a shared device. What you type is never sent to CasaLore.

Ground rules
  • Make it with your parent, not about them. Ask what they want shared, and with whom.
  • Write down logistics, not medical details. Note that an appointment exists, not what it’s for.
  • Never write passwords, PINs or account numbers on these pages.
  • Agree who can see it, and where a printed copy is kept.

First-week checklist

Choose a few practical first steps, with your parent. You do not need to solve everything this week.

About 10 minutes to choose a next step · Finish it over the week · Fill in online or print

What matters to your parent?

What would make this week easier?

A gentle checklist

Tick what you’ve done or decided. Skip anything that doesn’t fit your family. These are prompts, not medical instructions.

Our next three steps

StepWhoBy when

One question, and when we’ll check in

Ask for a little help

Turn “I could use some help” into one clear, manageable request.

3–5 minutes · Copy it when you’re happy with it · Nothing is sent

A small, specific request is easier to say yes to. Fill in what you can; skip the rest.

Copying a message does not send it. You choose where to paste it and who sees it.

Weekly care plan

Agree who is doing what this week, and who can step in.

20–30 minutes to set up · 5–10 minutes each week after · Fill in online or print

Share jobs by each person’s time and distance, not in equal piles. A plan people actually keep beats a perfectly fair one. Part 1 is the setup, which you do once. Part 2 is this week, which you update each week.

Part 1 · Set up: the recurring jobs

Example: Weekly grocery run · every Saturday · 1½ hours · in person · owner: Sam · backup: Alex

Big and small: shopping, rides, laundry, yard work, pharmacy pickups, a regular phone call. Fill in “Agreed owner” only once that person has said yes.

Who has time (optional)

Someone far away can still own calls, online orders, booking rides or arranging repairs.

Part 2 · This week

More than one thing in a day? Use another row.

Try it, then adjust

Give it four weeks before changing much. Then ask: what slipped, and who has more or less time than we thought?

Share with care. A worksheet link opens a blank copy. To share your completed plan, review it and print or copy the parts you want to share. Ask your parent what they want shared, and with whom.

Summary to share

Read it through and change anything you like. Nothing is sent: you choose where to paste it. Private notes are never included.
